After an Olympics in Paris that was jam-packed with memorable moments, many may be wondering when to tune in for another Games, and they're less than two years away!

When are the next Olympics?

The next Olympics will be the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics. The Winter Olympics will take place from February 6 to February 22, with the Paralympics following from March 6 to March 15. 

Where are the next Olympics?

Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo are the hosts of the 2026 Winter Olympics. Milan is Italy’s second most populated city and is considered the economic capital of the country. Milan will host multiple sports, including figure skating, ice hockey, speed skating and para ice hockey, as well as the Opening Ceremony. 

Cortina d’Ampezzo is a town in the north of Italy, in the heart of the European Alps. Cortina previously hosted the Winter Olympics in 1956, and will be home to bobsled, skeleton, alpine skiing, curling, para snowboard and more in 2026.

The Closing Ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics will take place in the Arena di Verona, a Roman amphitheater built in 30 AD. The arena is one of the best-preserved ancient structures of it’s kind, and is still in use as a venue for opera performances. It will also host the Opening Ceremony of the Paralympics.

How many times has Italy hosted the Olympics?

Milan Cortina 2026 will be Italy’s fourth Olympics. Previously the country hosted the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina d’Ampezzo, the 1960 Olympics in Rome and the 2006 Winter Games in Turin.

The mascots for the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Games are two stoats named Tina and Milo. Tina, the white stoat, is the mascot for the Olympics and her brother Milo, the brown stoat, will represent the Paralympics. They are named after the two host cities and were designed by students at the Istituto Comprensivo of Taverna, and voted on by a public poll. 

Will there be any new sports at the 2026 Winter Olympics?

Yes, there will be one new sport included at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics: ski mountaineering. Ski Mountaineering is a timed skiing discipline, where athletes climb an established mountain course and then descend on skis.  

Ski mountaineering will have three events in Milan Cortina, the men’s sprint, the women’s sprint and the mixed relay.
