With the start of the 2024 Paris Olympics just days away, the U.S. women's basketball team once again looks to be in gold-medal form. A'ja Wilson posted a game-high 19 points and 14 rebounds, Breanna Stewart chipped in 15 more and the Americans never trailed for a second in an easy 84-57 win over Germany in their final pre-Paris tune-up in London.
The U.S. was coming off a rare setback, having been upset by a team of WNBA stars in a wildly entertaining 117-109 game last weekend. Against the Germans, however, there was no such trouble, as Team USA started the game on a 15-4 run and never looked back. With Brittney Griner sitting out, 10 of 11 available American players found the scoring column, with Kelsey Plum the lone exception.
The U.S. shot a blistering 10-24 from 3-point range while holding Germany to 29.4% shooting from the field on the night -- including a 3-for-17 effort from Dallas Wings forward Satou Sabally, who never seemed to get comfortable against the length of the American frontcourt.
These two teams will meet again in Paris. Both are in Group C, and they are scheduled to conclude group play against each other on August 4. To say that the American women enter these Olympics as favorites would be a colossal understatement: The U.S. hasn't lost a game in a major international tournament since 2006 and have not lost a game at the Olympics since 1992, a whopping 55-game winning streak.
