Overview

The endurance sport of cross-country skiing is set to return for another Olympics in Milan Cortina in 2026. The oldest mode of skiing, cross-country has been an Olympic sport since the first Winter Games in 1924.

There are two techniques in cross-country skiing, classic and freestyle. In classic, the skier glides along tracks in snow. The freestyle technique requires athletes to make lateral movements to move forwards (i.e. skating).
