Delaney Schnell will represent the United States for a second time in the 10m platform event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Schnell won the individual event at the U.S. Olympic Diving Trials in Knoxville, Tennessee, with a final score of 638.00.

The University of Arizona graduate earned silver with partner Jessica Parratto in the synchronized 10m platform at the Tokyo Olympics, the United States' first-ever medal in the event. Schnell also placed fifth in the individual 10m platform competition. 

Now, she'll have a chance at more hardware in Paris.

"This is a very different feeling [than qualifying for Tokyo] just because it's been a difficult three years. I've been in a very rigorous graduate program. My fiancé has been deployed. I've been, you know, trying to be an elite athlete at the same time. It's just been a lot," Schnell said. "So I just have my coaches to thank and my friends and family. They've been so incredible through these last three years."

Schnell had already qualified for the synchro event, where she'll team up with Parratto for a second time. But while Parratto elected to forgo the individual competition to focus on synchro, Schnell successfully pulled off the double for a second consecutive Trials.

The 25-year-old was a favorite going into the finals after solidifying an 18.1 point lead by the end of the semifinal round. After a bad miss on her second dive of the evening — earning 43.2 points and narrowing her lead to just 6.2 points — Schnell quickly bounced back, performing two near-perfect somersaults to regain an edge that she'd maintain through the end of the competition.

"It's just one dive at a time," Schnell said. "That's just kind of my motto going into these events. No matter what happens on the previous dive, you have to move on. Whether it's nines, whether it's fours, you have to be able to move on to the next one."

There is still a possibility that the U.S. could be awarded a second Olympic spot in women’s platform when remaining quota places are allocated. Should that happen, Daryn Wright would qualify for Paris as the Trials runner-up.
