What to know about basketball at the 2024 Paris Olympics
The big question for Paris: Will Team USA continue its domination of the Olympic basketball tournaments?
The U.S. women, led by WNBA superstars such as A'ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart, are aiming for an unprecedented eighth consecutive Olympic title, and any other outcome would be a massive upset. It's also a chance for one of the team's legendary veterans, Diana Taurasi, to make some history. Taurasi, now 42, will play at her sixth Olympics and could become the first basketball player to win six Olympic gold medals.
There appears to be a bit more drama on the men's side as the U.S. goes for a fifth straight gold medal. Team USA will field one of its most stacked rosters in years — LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and Joel Embiid are just a few of the names on this team — but the international competition has continued to improve. Nikola Jokic (Serbia), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Canada), Victor Wembanyama (France) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (Greece) are among the NBA superstars expected to be leading their teams.
