What to know about rugby at the 2024 Paris Olympics
The Olympic rugby competition (rugby sevens) includes a men’s and women’s tournament. In both tournaments, 12 teams contest a pool round, followed by a single-elimination knockout stage.
The U.S. men's team don't enter the tournament as the favorites, but with a young squad led by rugby sevens legend Perry Baker, the U.S. is capable of pulling off a few upsets. On the other hand, the U.S. women are a serious podium threat and will need to take care of business against Oceania powerhouses New Zealand and Australia to win gold. The team has many veteran players, including social media sensation Ilona Maher.
