What to know about soccer at the 2024 Paris Olympics
There are two soccer tournaments at the Paris Olympics, one for the men and the other for the women. The men's tournament consists of 16 teams placed in four groups of four, while the women's tournament has 12 teams with three groups of four.
Reigning men's Olympic champions Brazil failed to qualify for the 2024 Games, but there are other teams still considered favorites, such as France, Spain and Argentina. The U.S. will be returning to the tournament for the first time since 2008. All Olympic men's soccer teams are required to take an under-23 (U23) squad with the allowance of three overaged players.
In the women's tournament, Sophia Smith leads a new-look U.S. team that will have their hands full with plenty of other countries also favored to win gold, including Spain, France and reigning Olympic champions Canada.
