What to know about track and field at the 2024 Paris Olympics
Track and field at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games will feature some of the Olympics' top stars, including Noah Lyles, Sha'Carri Richardson, Mondo Duplantis, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Ryan Crouser, Shericka Jackson, Karsten Warholm and more.
Track and field also represents the Olympics' top sport by number of competitors and events, and for the first time, there are equal numbers of gold medals available for men and women.
Other notable changes in Paris include:
- A new event: the marathon race walk mixed relay (replacing the men's 50km race walk).
- All individual track events will feature repechage rounds, meaning that athletes who don't qualify by place in round one heats will have a second chance to qualify for semifinals with repechage heats.
Also, for the first time, gold medal-winning athletes in the 48 track and field events will receive $50,000 each from World Athletics for their accomplishments. Relay teams will be awarded $50,000 as a group and will split the money between its members.

Where will track and field take place at the Paris Olympics?
Stade de France
Most track and field events will take place at Stade de France in Saint-Denis, just north of Paris. The stadium, which has hosted many of France’s biggest sporting events, was created for the men’s 1998 World Cup, and has also held Rugby World Cups and World Track and Field Championships.
Regular tenants of the Stade de France include the French national teams for soccer and rugby, and the Paris rugby club Stade Français.
International musical acts such as Prince, Beyoncé, Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones and more have all performed at Stade de France.
Hôtel des Invalides
The marathon events will start from the historic Hôtel de Ville, athletes will follow a route past many of the iconic sights of Paris to Versailles, and then cross the finish line at the Hôtel des Invalides. Located in Paris, the Hôtel des Invalides is a complex of buildings containing museums and monuments of military history of France.
The marathon start and finish areas will be temporarily constructed for the Olympics.
Trocadéro
The 20km race walk event will start just across the Seine from the Eiffel Tower at the Trocadéro. One of the city’s most iconic landmarks in the heart of Paris, the Trocadéro will host multiple events around the Olympics, including the 20km race walk and the cycling road race.
