American skateboarder Jagger Eaton doesn't like surprises, especially when he's training for a competition.
But recently, there was one surprise he could get behind.
On behalf of non-profit Gold Meets Golden and partner Samsung, American country music singer and 'The Voice' judge Blake Shelton surprised the Tokyo bronze medalist with a send-off message filled with admiration and encouragement ahead of his second Olympic competition.
"I was about to get out here and do some kick flips in my driveway, and it made me think of you," Shelton quipped in the video. "I just wanted to say good luck over in Paris at the Olympics. Go get the gold for USA, buddy."
Gold Meets Golden is a non-profit dedicated to generating awareness and support for sports related causes. Leading up to the Games, the organization orchestrated a series of surprises designed to uplift and celebrate some of the extraordinary athletes heading to Paris to represent Team USA.
Shortly before his Olympic debut in Tokyo, Eaton, who is known for being transparent with his fans, publicly released his warm-up playlist on Spotify. It features a mix of artists like Playboi Carti, 2Pac, and country music. Of course, Blake Shelton makes an appearance.
"That got me hyped!" Eaton exclaimed after watching Shelton's video for the first time. "I was literally just listening to him in the car."
In addition to Shelton's well-wishes, Gold Meets Golden partner Samsung gifted a 98" TV to Kids That Rip, an indoor action sports center owned and run by Eaton's parents, Geoff Eaton and Shelly Schaerer, so everyone at the gym can watch his Olympic performances from home.
