The U.S. women’s gymnastics team looks to reclaim its spot atop the team event podium, 3x3 basketball competition tips off in Place de la Concorde, and U.S. women's rugby battles for its first-ever medal.

Elsewhere, swimmers Regan Smith and Kaylee McKeown headline a backstroke showdown, and far away in Tahiti, surfing finals could get underway — if the conditions allow.

Below, a full breakdown of the top events and athletes to watch on Day 4.

Led by Simone Biles, the U.S. women's gymnastics team competes together in search of redemption after a silver in Tokyo.

Three other returning Olympians — Jordan Chiles, Suni Lee and Jade Carey — join Biles on the team, while 16-year-old Hezly Rivera is making her debut.

In Sunday's qualification, Biles wore a bandage on her lower left leg, and Carey fought an illness, but it didn't seem to impact the talented squad.

Biles topped the vault and floor exercise with scores of 15.300 and 14.600, respectively. Not far behind on vault were Carey (third) and Chiles (fourth), while Chiles was also third on floor.

Biles also ranked second behind China's Zhou Yaqin in balance beam, with Lee in fourth. Lee (third) was the top U.S. qualifier on the uneven bars, with Algeria's Kaylia Nemour posting the highest score.

This team is the first in Olympic history to roster two all-around gold medalists in Biles (Rio 2016) and Lee (Tokyo 2020), and it's also the oldest U.S. women's team at the Games since 1952, averaging 22.2 years in age.

Together, the five share a mindboggling 55 global championship medals.

A win would give the U.S. its fourth women's team gold and ninth consecutive medal dating back to 1992.

Brazil, led by Tokyo all-around silver medalist Rebeca Andrade, will challenge, as will China, France and Italy.

The women's 100m backstroke final should be one of the best races of Paris, as the event's four fastest swimmers of all time are expected to compete.

American Regan Smith, still in search of Olympic gold, and defending champion Kaylee McKeown of Australia have traded the world record back and forth, with Smith claiming it most recently at U.S. Trials in June.

They'll take on Canadian Kylie Masse, the Tokyo silver medalist, and Smith's teammate Katharine Berkoff, 23, the only one out of the four absent from last cycle's podium.

At 2023 Worlds, the foursome took the top four spots in the following order: McKeown first, Smith second, Berkoff third and Masse fourth.

In the men's 800m freestyle, American Bobby Finke will attempt to defend his title against 20-year-old Sam Short of Australia. Finke, the U.S. record-holder, won the world title in 2022, then lost to Short at 2023 Worlds.

Ireland's Daniel Wiffen, last year's world champion, could challenge for a spot on the podium as well.

The lone relay final of the night, the men's 4x200m freestyle, is Great Britain's to lose, boasting the the top two individual 200m free swimmers from 2023 Worlds in Matthew Richards and Tom Dean.

Team USA didn't make the podium in Tokyo, breaking a streak of four straight golds, but is poised to challenge as the world champion in 2022 and runner-up to Great Britain in 2023.

Both American teams have solid shots to bring home gold in 3x3 basketball, which begins Tuesday with men's and women's round-robin play.

The U.S. women captured the inaugural Olympic title in Tokyo, defeating the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) team 18-15. The men's side failed to qualify for those Games.

The women's roster in Paris includes two members of last year's World Cup-winning team, Cierra Burdick and Hailey Van Lith. The other two team members are Rhyne Howard, 2022 WNBA Rookie of the Year, and Dearica Hamby, who replaced Los Angeles Sparks teammate Cameron Brink after Brink tore her ACL in June. They'll be favorites for gold but could be challenged by China, Germany and 2022 World Cup champion France.

At last year's World Cup, the U.S. men took silver in a close final with Tokyo bronze medalist Serbia. They return the same roster for Paris: Kareem Maddox, Jimmer Fredette, Dylan Travis and Canyon Barry, son of Rick.

The U.S. men are podium favorites, but Serbia could be considered slight favorites for gold. That said, the American quartet beat the Serbians earlier this year on the FIBA circuit.

The U.S. women's rugby team, led by Ilona Maher, tries to claim its first Olympic medal. Americans haven't taken home a rugby medal since the men's 15s in 1924, the last time the Olympics were in Paris.

The day will start with a semifinal vs. New Zealand and will end with a medal match against either Canada or Australia.

In Monday's quarterfinals, the Americans handled the Brits 17-7, Canada upset Tokyo silver medalist France 19-14, and New Zealand trounced China 55-5 for the largest margin of victory ever in an Olympic rugby sevens knockout round.

In Tahiti, Round 3 of the women's competition was postponed on Monday. The next call will be made at 12:15 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

Once competition resumes, the U.S. has the potential to ride its way to multiple podium spots after earning one medal in Tokyo.

Carissa Moore earned that sole medal, a gold, and seeks a title defense on the verge of retirement. She's joined by fellow teammates and contenders Caroline Marks, the reigning world champion, and 18-year-old Caity Simmers.

Marks won the 2023 WSL Tour stop at Tahiti last year, and Simmer was second, so both are familiar with the Teahupo’o wave.

On the men's side, Round 3 was completed on Monday, so the quarterfinals will be up next. When it is, Brazilians Gabriel Medina and Filipe Toledo are expected to contend with Aussie Jack Robinson and Tahiti native Kauli Vaast, representing host-nation France.

In men's trap shooting, Americans Derrick Mein and Will Hinton look to spoil the title defense of Czech Jiri Liptak, who seeks to become the second man to win multiple Olympic golds in the event. 

Mein, the 2022 world champion, placed fifth at last year's worlds, while Hinton took fourth.

• Looking to bounce back from a 12-8 loss to Italy, the men's water polo team faces Romania (10:35 a.m. ET)
• The U.S. men's soccer team needs one of three scenarios to advance: beat Guinea; tie Guinea with a New Zealand tie or loss to France; or lose to Guinea with a New Zealand loss to France (1 p.m. ET)
• In fencing, South Korean women epeeists search for an elusive gold in the team event after silvers in London and Tokyo (1:30 p.m. ET)
