It turned out to be a nightmare day on the slopes for Mikaela Shiffrin and boyfriend Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, as neither earned medals in their events on a busy Monday of Alpine skiing.

Shiffrin shockingly crashed out during her first run in the women's giant slalom, while Kilde was simply not as quick as some surprising medal winners in the men's downhill.

American Nina O'Brien pushed hard to build upon her impressive first run but lost control near the end of her second run, falling forward over her skies and tumbling to the finish area. She is being tended to by medical personnel.

2:08 a.m. ET – Paula Moltzan ties the lead

After nearly crashing midway through her run and skiing several yards on one ski, Team USA's Paula Moltzan finished tied for the lead after 10 skiers.

1:45 a.m. ET – Women's giant slalom resumes

After over a quarter of the women's GS field skied out during the first run, the competition resumes in reverse order of the Run 1 standings. Current leader Sara Hector will ski 30th down the hill, while American Nina O'Brien takes off in the 25th spot.

MEN'S DOWNHILL RESULTS

France's Johan Clarey is in position to become the oldest Alpine skiing medalist of all time as he finishes one tenth behind Feuz and slots into the silver medal position.

11:57 p.m. ET – Travis Ganong outside top 10

Team USA's Travis Ganong finishes 1.70 off the pace.

11:52 p.m. ET – USA's Cochran-Siegle skies to eighth

Ryan Cochran-Siegle was unable to challenge for the podium places but managed to earn himself a spot in the top-10.

11:44 p.m. ET – Beat Feuz takes over gold medal spot

Switzerland's Beat Feuz, the most consistent downhill skier of all time lacking only Olympic gold on his resume, might have done enough to change that. He takes over the lead from Mayer at 1:42.69

11:39 p.m. ET – Kilde unable to catch Mayer

Norwegian favorite Aleksander Aamodt Kilde take over second place, but could not out-ski Mayer, who maintains a .35 lead.

11:33 p.m. ET – Matthias Mayer skies into first

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Matthias Mayer, who struggled mightily to find the racing line during training, set the new top time of the race at 1:42.85. The 31-year-old Austrian won the downhill at Sochi 2014 and the super-G in PyeongChang 2018.

11:22 p.m. ET – Bennett just misses top time

After a 15 minute course delay, Team USA's Bryce Bennett was on track to potentially overtake Kriechmayr before an error near the bottom of the course disrupted his time. He ends up in second by .80.

11:06 p.m. ET – 'The Rock' claims first crash victim

Dominik Schwaiger of Germany, the second skier down the mountain, suffered a rough high-speed crash which has put the event in a delay.

11:02 p.m. ET – Men's downhill underway

Vincent Kriechmayr sets the opening mark of 1:43.45. Team USA's Bryce Bennett coming up in the 3rd spot.

Federica Brignone of Italy, wearing the No. 3 bib, sets the first competitive time of 57.98, over a second faster than Vlhova and Michelle Gisin.

Petra Vlhova of Slovakia, the world's top-ranked slalom skier and the first athlete down the "Ice River" course, finished in 59.34 after an error-filled run.
