The Olympic men's handball tournament wrapped up group play on Sunday. Details from each game of the session are below.

Group A: Sweden vs. Japan

Sweden needed a point to advance to Wednesday's quarterfinals. Japan, winless in group play, was hoping to add one 'W' before its Olympics concluded.

This one ended like the first four for Japan, as Sweden eased to victory, 40-27, to pick up two points and keep its medal hopes alive.

Sweden converted 40 of 53 shots on goal (75%) and were never threatened in this match. They joined Germany and Slovenia from Group A into the quarters with the final spot still open.

Group B: Egypt vs. Argentina

Heading into the match, Egypt already secured its spot in the quarterfinals while Argentina was eliminated from the tournament. But to build up momentum, Egypt defeated Argentina 34-27.

It was a slow start for the Egyptians, but they were able to get back on track in the second half by scoring 20 goals to ensure its victory.

Egypt impressively converted 69% of its shots as Ali Zeinelabedin scored six goals. 

Egypt currently ranks second in Group B, and the African nation can stay in that position depending on Norway's result later.

Group A: Germany vs. Slovenia

It was a clash of the top two teams in Group A, and Germany was able to display an impressive 36-29 win over Slovenia. 

The Germans came out on the front foot, scoring 23 goals in the first half as the defense limited Slovenia's attack to only 13 goals. The momentum shifted in the second half as Slovenia upped its play, but Germany's first-half dominance was enough to get the win and top the group. The Germans converted 77% of their shots as Kai Hafner scored seven goals in the match.

Both teams may meet in the later stages of the knockout rounds, but until then, both will be teams to avoid in the quarterfinals.

Group B: Hungary vs. France

France did just enough to secure its spot in the quarterfinals thanks to a 24-20 win over Hungary. 

It was a tight match, but the host nation was able to stay just ahead in each half as Elohim Prandi scored seven goals. France's defense was also able to limit Hungary's attack as Vincent Gerard saved 35% of the shots thrown at him. 

With the loss, Hungary is now out of the tournament, while France finished in fourth place in Group B.

Group B: Denmark vs. Norway

Denmark stayed unbeaten in group play after taking care of Denmark in a 32-25 win to top Group B.

Denmark showed its dominance throughout the match as the team converted 70% of its shots. Simon Pytlick also had himself a day as he scored nine goals for the Danish. 

Despite the loss for Norway, it will still advance to the quarterfinals after finishing third in the group.

Group A: Spain vs. Croatia

In a match where only the winner would advance to the quarterfinals, it was Spain who could celebrate after defeating Croatia in a narrow 32-21 victory. 

It was an end-to-end, thrilling match as both teams stayed within margin of each other. But Spain did just enough to ensure its run at the Paris Olympics continues. 

Both teams took almost the same amount of shots, but Javier Riodriguez's six goals proved crucial to ensure Spain had the edge over Croatia.

The Spanish finished third in Group A, while Croatia narrowly missed out on qualifying for the next round and finished in fifth.
