Weightlifting may have found its newest rising star in American Olivia Reeves.
This summer, the gold-medal contender in the women’s 71kg (157 lbs.) weight class, will join Mary Theisen-Lappen, Jourdan Delacruz, Hampton Morris and Wes Kitts on a U.S. weightlifting squad that could very well break a 24-year Olympic gold-medal drought in the discipline and, possibly, win two or more medals in the sport for the first time since 1960.
In fact, Reeves’ emergence in the field was so swift it caused Olympian and Tokyo silver medalist Kate Vibert to move up a weight class in an attempt to increase her chances at clinching another Olympic bid.
Here are some things to know about Reeves ahead of her potentially history-making performance in Paris.
