Individual All-Around
One year after achieving an historic sweep at the world championships, Germany's Darja Varfolomeev was both stunning and consistent across the board to be crowned Olympic all-around champion. Bulgaria's Boryana Kaleyn finished second and Italy's Sofia Raffaeli took third.
Germany hadn't won a medal in rhythmic gymnastics since Regina Weber earned bronze in 1984 representing West Germany.

Group All-Around
For the first time in Olympic history, China won the gold medal in the group competition. Israel took silver (its first group all-around medal as well) and Italy bagged bronze at the Port de La Chapelle Arena. It marked the first time former Soviet countries have not been on the podium since they boycotted the 1984 Los Angeles Games.
