Each day of the 2024 Paris Olympics, NBC Olympics will run down all sports in action, highlighting major athletes and marquee events. Every event streams live on NBCOlympics.com, Peacock, NBC.com and the NBC Sports app, and many will also air on the TV networks of NBC. Visit the schedule page for full listings.
Gold is in the Parisian air with abundant U.S. title opportunities in multiple disciplines including men’s basketball, women’s soccer and track and field. NBA superstars LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Steph Curry look to lead Team USA past host nation France for gold No. 17, while the USWNT and "Triple Espresso" Trinity Rodman, Sophia Smith and Mallory Swanson seek the team's best finish since London.
In track and field, the U.S. aims to claim a seventh-straight medal in the 100m hurdles; Grant Fisher and Nikki Hiltz target respective podiums in the men's 5000m and women's 1500m; Kenyan legends Eliud Kipchoge and Faith Kipyegon attempt three-peats; and Team USA goes for gold in the men's and women's 4x400m relays. Elsewhere, the U.S. has favorites in men's breaking ("Victor") and women's canoe sprint (Nevin Harrison).
Below, a full breakdown of the top events and athletes to watch on Day 15.
Basketball
A rematch of the Tokyo Olympic final, the U.S. men's team takes on France for gold, attempting to win its fifth-straight title. The Americans beat the French 87-82 three years ago with 29 points from tournament MVP Kevin Durant. In Paris, the French lost once during group play to Germany, while the Americans remain perfect — their last defeat at the Games coming in an 83-76 Tokyo Olympics opener... against France.
In the semifinals, Olympic newcomer Steph Curry dropped a tournament-high 36 points to rescue Team USA from being upset by three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic and Serbia, 95-91. Meanwhile, France advanced in a second effort against Germany, 73-69, paced by 17 points from Real Madrid club player Guerschon Yabusele.
Based on statistics this game should not be close. Collectively, the Americans own four of the top five point totals from this tournament and are averaging a competition-best 106.8 points per game. Individually, they have five players averaging 13 or more points: four-time Olympian Lebron James (14.2), Anthony Edwards (13.8), U.S. all-time leading Olympic scorer Durant (13.6), Joel Embiid (13) and Curry (13). But that's not everything — just ask the 2004 team.
France's imposing front court features 7-foot-3 NBA Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama, who's averaging 10.2 rebounds per game, and 7-foot-1 four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert.

Soccer
The U.S. women's team (USWNT) had somewhat low expectations entering Paris after missing the podium in Rio, taking bronze at the most recent Games in Tokyo and exiting in the Round of 16 at the 2023 Women's World Cup. Now a decade past its three straight golds in Athens, Beijing and London, and missing recently retired veterans Megan Rapinoe and Julie Ertz, the sentiment could've been read as a rebuild Games.
But clearly the work of new head coach Emma Hayes is paying dividends — and ahead of schedule. In her first major tournament, Hayes has guided a younger squad into the Olympic final as the favorite. The team is guaranteed its seventh medal in eight Games appearances, but undoubtedly wishes to return to its gold-winning ways from London, where no current player was rostered.
Team USA is led by "Triple Espresso" attacking trio Trinity Rodman, Sophia Smith and Mallory Swanson, fittingly ranked third in tournament goals with three apiece. Smith and Swanson also have two assists, along with captain Lindsey Horan. They're unbeaten in Paris, securing the last two wins in extra time: 1-0 vs. Japan on a 105th-minute goal from Rodman, and 1-0 vs. Germany on a 95th-minute goal from Smith.
Brazil knocked off reigning Women's World Cup champion Spain 4-2 to advance to the final, and did it without captain Marta, who returns from a two-game red card suspension. Marta won silver with Brazil at the 2004 and 2008 Games.

Track and Field
Day 10 of track and field features nine finals, headlined by the women's 100m hurdles, 4x400m relays, men's 5000m, women's 1500m and men's marathon.
In the women's 100m hurdles, American Masai Russell enters with a world-lead 12.25 set at U.S. Trials, while Puerto Rico's Jasmine Camacho-Quinn is the defending Olympic champion from Tokyo and winner of two interim world medals. In Tokyo, U.S.-born Camacho-Quinn took down the Olympic record, and was the only competitor to run 12.40 or faster. Thirteen women have already accomplished that feat this year, setting up what could be a lightning-fast final.
Russell and her fellow first-time Olympian teammates Alaysha Johnson and Grace Stark all placed in the top four in Friday's semifinal round. Camacho-Quinn ran a season-best 12.35 for second. Other names in the final: Jamaican Ackera Nugent, who back in June held the world lead for about an hour before Russell overtook it; indoor 60m hurdles world record-holder Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas; and and reigning European champ Cyrena Samba-Mayela of France.
In the 4x400m relays, the American women clocked the fastest time of the prelims, three seconds ahead of Great Britain and France. The Netherlands was sixth, but don't take that at face value — Femke Bol almost certainly will be added for the final, and we all know what happened in the mixed relay last week. A gold in Paris would be the team's eighth straight. The U.S. men posted the third-best time in their first round, lagging behind Botswana with 100m champion Letsile Tebogo, as well as Great Britain. Sixteen-year-old Quincy Wilson ran leadoff for the team, becoming the youngest U.S. male Olympic track and field athlete in history. He's unlikely to be a part of the final.
In the men's 5000m, two-time reigning world champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen of Norway is poised to redeem himself at his favorite distance following a shocking 1500m podium miss. In the women's 1500m, Kenyan Faith Kipyegon looks to defend her consecutive golds from Rio and Tokyo and become the first woman to win three titles in the event. And in the men's marathon, Kipyegon's compatriot Eliud Kipchoge, 39, also attempts to repeat for a third straight gold after Rio and Tokyo.
Reigning outdoor world high jump runner-up JuVaughn Harrison of the U.S. didn't advance out of Wednesday's qualifying, but teammate and indoor world runner-up Shelby McEwen made it through as the round's top jumper. Fellow American Bryce Hoppel had similar success in the men's 800m semifinals, entering Saturday's final as the No. 2 seed. Hoppel should not be underestimated. While it's true the event is one of track's most unpredictable, strategic racers often find success, and Hoppel is one of them. He's also the reigning world indoor champion and ran extremely well at U.S. Trials.

Swiss Morgane Metreaux now shares the lead at 9-under 207 with New Zealand's Lydia Ko entering the decisive fourth and final round of the women's tournament.
American Rose Zhang is knocking on the door just two back, tied with Miyu Yamashita of Japan at 7-under. Zhang's teammate Nelly Korda, the defending Olympic gold medalist, sits in seventh tied with four others at 4-under.
If Ko makes the podium, she becomes the first to win three Olympic gold medals. The two-time major champion claimed silver in Rio and bronze in Tokyo.

Breaking made its Olympic debut Thursday with the B-girls event, won by Ami Yuasa ("Ami") of Japan.
On the B-boys side, American Victor Montalvo (“Victor”) is the favorite, having captured last year's world title. The Florida native started in the sport at age 6, following in the footsteps of his father, who was a B-boy in Mexico.
Victor will be challenged by fellow 2023 world medalists Philip Kim (“Phil Wizard”) of Canada and Shigeyuki Nakarai (“Shigekix”) of Japan.

Canoe Sprint
Nevin Harrison made history in Tokyo becoming the first American to win gold in women's Olympic canoe sprint. Now 22, the biology student at San Diego State University returns to defend her title.
At the most recent world championships, Harrison finished fourth.
Cirilo Duboys, a politician in Cuba, won the title, and initially looked to be the canoeist to beat in Paris. But Thursday's qualifying heats told another story: Harrison clocked 45.70 to Duboys' 45.94 for the round's top time, advancing straight to the final.

The U.S. women's team fell to Spain in the semifinals, losing its bid for fourth-straight gold. A seventh straight podium spot is still in the cards as the Americans take on the Dutch.
It's been a wild program history for the Netherlands. The team finished fourth in Sydney, failed to qualify in Athens, won gold in Beijing, again missed qualifying for London and Rio, took sixth in Tokyo and now has a chance for bronze in Paris.
