Five-time world BMX freestyle champion Hannah Roberts looks to improve on her silver from Tokyo, the U.S. men's basketball team seeks to avoid another close one with South Sudan, and the USWNT takes on Australia in a rematch of Tokyo's bronze medal match.

Elsewhere, the men's all-around gymnastics final features Daiki Hashimoto of Japan and American Frederick Richard. And in the pool, Katie Ledecky competes in one of her strongest events, while host-nation favorite Leon Marchard attempts to add medals in the 200m butterfly and breaststroke.

Below, a full breakdown of the top events and athletes to watch on Day 5.

Gymnastics

Daiki Hashimoto of Japan headlines the men's all-around final, and it's his to lose as the event's two-time reigning world champion and defending gold medalist from Tokyo, where he competed at just 19 years old.

His biggest challenger? Zhang Boheng of China, who beat Hashimoto by 0.017 points at 2021 Worlds. Zhang struggled with injuries this year but appears in top form after ranking first (88.597) in qualifying on Saturday.

Hashimoto's teammate Shinnosuke Oka, competing in his first senior-level global meet, placed second (86.865) behind Zhang.

Fresh off a bronze in the team event, the Americans have contenders in Frederick Richard and Paul Juda. They were 10th (83.498) and 13th (82.865) in qualifying, respectively. Missing is reigning national champion Brody Malone, who didn't qualify.

The U.S. has not won a men’s all-around medal since Danell Leyva's bronze at the 2012 London Games.

Cycling

American Hannah Roberts enters a second-straight Olympics as the gold medal favorite in BMX freestyle. She took silver in Tokyo, upset by Great Britain's Charlotte Worthington who landed the first-ever 360 backflip in women's competitive history.

Two world titles later – bringing her total to five – Roberts is primed to finish the job. She's had multiple other major competition wins, including at the event's X Games debut last month.

Also vying for podium spots: Tokyo bronze medalist Nikita Ducarroz of Switzerland; Roberts' teammate Perris Benegas, fourth-place finisher in Tokyo; and Chinese riders Deng Yawen and Sun Jiaqi.

Roberts topped Tuesday's qualifying with a 91.45. Deng and Dun were second and third with 91.03 and 87.83, followed by Benegas in fourth at 85.44.

On the men's side, France's Anthony Jeanjean hopes to put on a show for the home crowd. Aussie Logan Martin, the defending Olympic gold medalist, and Great Britain's Kieran Reilly, the reigning world champion, will also contend for the top of the podium. Reilly led qualifying.

Swimming

Five finals are set to take place: men's and women's 100m freestyles, men's 200m breaststroke, men's 200m butterfly and women's 1500m freestyle.

Katie Ledecky's back in the pool for the 1500m, her second of three individual events in Paris and by far her strongest. The 19 fastest times in event history belong to her.

In the race for silver, the favorite is Italy's Simona Quadarella, whose two world titles were won in the absence of Ledecky, with Li Bingjie of China also in the mix.

France’s Leon Marchand, who won gold Sunday in the 400m IM, will attempt to add two more titles in finals just an hour and a half apart.

Up first is the 200m butterfly where Marchand will need to fend off reigning world champion Tomoru Honda of Japan. Later, in the 200m breaststroke, he'll take on China's Qin Haiyang, the event's world record holder.

Australian Mollie O’Callaghan already has two golds in Paris, and she'll look to add another in the 100m freestyle. Teammate Shayna Jack and Tokyo silver medalist Siobhan Haughey of Hong Kong will challenge, with American Gretchen Walsh a possible contender.

On the men's side, it's a loaded 100m free with the two most recent world record holders – China's Pan Zhanle and Romanian David Popovici  – and Rio gold medalist Kyle Chalmers of Australia set to clash.

Basketball

The U.S. men's team faces South Sudan, which it nearly lost to earlier this month during a pre-Olympic exhibition game. Down 14 at halftime, the Americans were forced to mount a massive comeback, and LeBron James capped it off with a game-winning layup.

Team USA beat Serbia 110-84 in its opener Sunday behind a combined 44 points from veterans Kevin Durant and James. Four others also had 10-plus points: Jrue Holiday, Devin Booker, Anthony Edwards and Steph Curry.

South Sudan also won its first game, defeating Puerto Rico 90-79. Carlik Jones led with 19 points.

Fencing

Team USA could find the podium in men's team sabre. Entering Paris as the world No. 2, the Americans took bronze at 2023 Worlds, and have the reigning individual world champion sabreur in Eli Dershwitz.

They'll also lean on 18-year-old Colin Heathcock, a two-time junior individual world champion who was born in Beijing and represented Germany before joining the U.S. after the 2022 season.

South Korea is expected to defend its gold from Tokyo, with Hungary, Italy and France also in the hunt.
