On Monday, the United States men's gymnastics team won bronze in the team final — the first medal for the U.S. men's team in 16 years (bronze, 2008 Beijing Games). The day's accolades didn't stop there for Team USA. Elsewhere, the U.S. finished 2-3 on the podium in the men's skateboarding street final thanks to strong showings from Jagger Eaton and Nyjah Huston.

Here's what you should know from Day 3 of competition.

For the first time since 2008, the United States men's gymnastics team finished on the podium at the Olympics. 

Japan reclaimed the gold medal with 259.594 points. China won silver with 259.062 points and the U.S. were close behind with 257.793 points.

The men's team of Frederick Richard, Brody Malone, Asher Hong, Paul Juda and Stephen Nedoroscik came together to earn the bronze medal. In the final rotation, the U.S. needed three strong performances on pommel horse to secure the medal. Nedoroscik had to wait over two hours to compete in his one and only event, but his clutch routine on the pommel horse all but sealed the deal with a solid score of 14.866.

After the men's street final was rained out on Saturday and rescheduled for Monday, Americans Jagger Eaton and Nyjah Huston finished 2-3 overall. 

Japan's Yuto Horigome won gold in the event after taking the lead with his final trick. Eaton finished just 0.10 points behind Horigome. With the second-place finish, Eaton added a silver medal to the bronze he won in Tokyo. 

Huston, a 15-time X Games champion, entered the competition hoping to rebound from his seventh-place finish in Tokyo. Now he has won his first Olympic medal. 

The U.S. has now won three of the six available Olympic medals in men's street skateboarding (the event was added to the program at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago).

Two of the greatest players of all time met in the second round of competition at Roland-Garros. Serbia's top-seeded Novak Djokovic defeated 14-time French Open winner Rafael Nadal, 6-1, 6-4 on Monday to advance to the third round. 

It was the 60th all-time meeting between Djokovic and Nadal. Their only previous meeting in the Olympics came at the 2008 Beijing Games, when Nadal beat Djokovic in the men's singles semifinals -- and Nadal went on to win gold.

Djokovic, a 24-time major champion, continues his pursuit of his first Olympic medal.

Meanwhile, 22-time major champion Nadal will continue to compete in the doubles competition with partner Carlos Alacraz. 

On the women's side, gold medal favorite Iga Swiatek effortlessly advanced to the third round.

The U.S. women's volleyball team lost its first match in its quest for back-to-back gold medals when it fell to China on Tuesday.

China is a force to be reckoned with as it won gold at the 2016 Olympics. The Americans came all the way back in sets three and four to force a tiebreaking fifth set, but it wasn't enough to top China.

Team USA earned one point from the match because they forced a fifth set. Next, the Americans will play Serbia on Wednesday, July 31, at 11 a.m. ET.

The U.S. women's rugby team beat Great Britain 17-7 on Monday, propelling the Eagles into the program's first-ever appearance in the Games' semifinals.

For the Americans, the historic win is even sweeter as Great Britain handed Team USA an early exit in the Tokyo Games three years ago.

After the match, American Sammy Sullivan spoke about what the win meant to her, “We have been in this position before, and I know for many girls this was a kind of payback for the last Olympics. But for me, coming in new, it was just really about wanting to make those girls proud and show up for them. It is a dream come true".

The United States' historic campaign continues on Tuesday, July 30, with a bout against New Zealand in the semifinals at 9:20 a.m. ET.

The United States women's basketball team entered its first match of the Paris Olympics in commanding fashion in a blowout 102-76 win over Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Japan thanks in part to dominant frontcourt performances by A'ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart.

"It's amazing to play with A'Ja," Stewart said. "Her and I are just continuing to create this two-women tandem on the court: looking for each other, high-low, running the floor and really making it difficult for the other team."

The Americans' next game comes on Thursday, Aug. 1, against Belgium at 3:00 p.m. ET.

U.S. women's beach volleyball duo Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss defeated Australia's Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho in straight sets to move to 2-0 in pool play.

Kloth and Nuss continue Pool B play on Thursday, August 1, against China.

• The British duo of Tom Daley and Noah Williams won silver in the men's diving synchronized 10m platform. Daley, who is making his fifth Olympic appearance, was one of Great Britain's flag bearers at the Opening Ceremony.
• Equestrian eventing came to a close on Monday as Great Britain claimed gold in the competition, defending its team eventing title from the Tokyo Games.
• Spanish tennis superstar Carlos Alcaraz won in straight sets against the Netherland's Tallon Griekspoor to advance to the third round of the Olympic tennis men's singles event at Roland-Garros.
•  Christa Deguchi won the women's 57kg gold to hand Canada its first ever Olympic judo title on Monday before Hidayat Heydarov of Azerbaijan triumphed in the men's 73kg final at the Paris Games.
• In the men's individual foil event, Hong Kong's Cheung Ka Long successfully defended his gold medal. American favorite Nick Itkin won bronze in his Olympic debut.
