Wheelchair basketball

The United States men's wheelchair basketball team will look to guarantee themselves at least a silver-medal finish at the Paris Games when Steve Serio and company take on Canada in the semifinals at 3:30pm ET on Thursday.

The Americans dispatched host nation France, 82-47, in Tuesday's quarterfinal round to come within one game of the final.

"We're definitely continuing to grow and put things together at the right time," Serio said.

The United States is attempting to complete a historic "three-peat" after winning gold at both the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

The winner of the North American clash will take on the winner of Great Britain vs. Germany in the opposite semifinal. The losers of each game will meet and play for bronze.

Para cycling

Just 24 hours after winning her eighth career Paralympic gold medal in the women's H4-5 time trial Wednesday, Oksana Masters will be back on her handcycle in search of a successful defense of her H5 road race crown from the Tokyo Paralympics. Masters, who has also competed in para rowing at the Summer Paralympics and para cross-country skiing and para biathlon at the Winter Games, says she still feels "like such a baby in the sport" of para cycling given her limited time in the saddle.

Also racing down the Champs-Elysees will be Team USA's Travis Gaertner, who is authoring a second Paralympic career as a para cyclist after a successful stint in wheelchair basketball dating back more than two decades. Gaertner, who then represented Canada, won gold medals on the hardwood at the Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 Paralympics. Now, at age 44, he's a medal contender in the men's H4 road race after placing fifth in Wednesday's time trial.

Para swimming

Paralympic newcomer Ali Truwit, who lost her leg as the result of a shark attack a year ago, will attempt to earn her first Paralympic medal when she takes to the pool in the women's 400m freestyle S10 Thursday.

Truwit, just months into her competitive career as a para athlete, already owns the fourth-fastest time of the Paralympic quad in the event.
