Where will swimming take place at the Paris Olympics?

Swimming at the 2024 Paris Olympics will take place inside Paris La Defense Arena, the largest indoor events venue in Europe.

Located just to the northwest of Paris in Nanterre, the domed stadium opened in 2017 with a stated seating capacity of 30,680 (though several events have announced attendances north of 36,000). Its main sporting tenant is rugby union club Racing 92, which plays its home matches there.

Paris La Defense Arena has hosted some of the most popular concert tours of the last seven years, including The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, P!nk and Imagine Dragons. In May, two months before the Olympics begin, Taylor Swift is scheduled to play the arena for four consecutive nights as part of The Eras Tour.

The Olympics will mark the first time Paris La Defense Arena will host aquatic sports. A 50-meter, 660,000-gallon Olympic-sized swimming pool will be constructed in the arena's floor.

To give fans a better view of the action, only about half of the venue will be utilized during the Olympic swimming program. Rather than place the pool long-ways in the center of the arena, it will instead sit perpendicular to the arena floor, tucked in close to one of the ends (similar to how the basketball court is oriented at Syracuse's JMA Wireless Dome). A movable grandstand, situated in the center of the arena floor, will border the opposite side of the pool. Capacity for swimming is stated to be 17,000.

Paris La Defense Arena will also host the men's and women's water polo gold medal matches.

Where will open water swimming take place at the Paris Olympics?

The highly-anticipated 10k open water events will take place in the Seine River through the heart of Paris. The race will begin from Pont Alexandre III, an ornate, 19th-century bridge in Paris' western end, and end 10 kilometers to the east at a temporary finish chute.

Whereas all other Olympic open water races have featured a lapped course, Paris will mark the first point-to-point marathon swim in the history of the Games.
