FULL RESULTS

Denmark vs. Netherlands

Denmark, making its first Olympic appearance since 2012, advanced to the semifinals of the women's handball tournament following a 29-25 victory over the Netherlands.

The Netherlands got off to a 4-0 start and led for the majority of the first half. But as Denmark picked up the pace, it gradually narrowed the gap. Denmark evened it with two minutes remaining and took its first lead with 43 seconds left in the half, an 11-10 advantage that stood at the break.

The Netherlands scored at least 28 goals in all five group-play games but was held to 42% shooting in the first 30 minutes. Carrying over into the second half, the Dutch went nearly 13 minutes without a goal and fell behind, 15-10.

Denmark, which, like the Netherlands, went 4-1 in group play, kept control — and the lead — the rest of the way. While the Netherlands briefly pulled within 2 points, Denmark pushed the lead to 5 with under seven minutes to play. The Netherlands' last chance ended with a turnover, down 3 with two minutes remaining.

Denmark will play on Thursday vs Norway in the women's handball seimifinals.

MATCH STATS

France vs. Germany

France flexed its defensive muscles in its 26-23 quarterfinal win over Germany.

Both teams found it challenging to get a grip on the match, but towards the end of the first half, the host nation got the stops it needed to take a 13-10 lead into the second half. In the end, both teams scored the same amount of goals (13) in the second half as France ensured it didn't give any momentum to the Germans.

Tamara Horacek led France in scoring with seven goals, but a lot of credit for the win has to go to goalkeeper Laura Glauser. She logged 13 saves and parried away 36% of the shots thrown at her to give her team that extra bit of energy late.

Germany's Olympics run in women's handball is over. France will play Sweden in the semifinals.

MATCH STATS

Norway vs Brazil

They won't all be close ones at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium, and this one was decidedly a blowout.

Norway blew past Brazil, 32-15, on Tuesday, as the Group A winners smashed Group B's fourth-place side with near-mirror 16-8, 16-7 halves led by six goals from Marit Jacobsen and five from Camilla Herrem.

Eleven players scored for Norway, eight of whom had multiple goals to set up a rematch with Denmark in the semifinals. Should Norway complete the double against the Danes, they'll either get the chance to avenge their only loss of the tournament (Sweden) or match up with Group B winners France.

MATCH STATS

Hungary vs Sweden

Sweden withstood an 11-goal barrage from Hungary star Katrin Klujber to seal a place in the semifinals with a 36-32 overtime win.

Four Swedish players struck at least six times in the win, led by Nina Koppang's seven goals.

Deadlocked at 29 heading into extra time, Koppang and Elin Hansson each scored twice as Sweden took the extra frame 7-3 and will meet France in the semifinals.
