When to watch shooting at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games

Shooting para sport events will be held from Friday, August 30 to Thursday, September 5 in Paris.

Athletes compete in two disciplines – rifle and pistol – from distances of 10m, 25m and 50m. These competitors attempt to hit their mark on the target as they look down open sights, meaning no magnification. The bullseye on their targets measures about 0.05cm wide.

Rules require athletes to compete against other athletes in their same impairment class, as defined by the Paralympic system of classification. The full list of classifications can be found below.

Shooting Para Sport Classifications
SH1 Athletes able to hold their gun without difficulty and shoot from a standing or sitting position (in a wheelchair or chair). SH1 athletes may use a pistol or a rifle.
SH2 Athletes are unable to hold their rifle independently, so use a stand, but are able to aim by themselves and control the rifle during shooting. Certain athletes may have an assistant to reload their gun.

Venue

The venue for the Paris Paralympic Games shooting competitions was once an abandoned complex owned by the French Ministry of the Armed Forces. Now, the refurbished and renamed Terrain des Essences in La Courneuve Shooting Range is prepared to host shooting para sport events inside temporary competition halls. After the Games, the structure will be removed leaving behind a recreational green space open to the public.
