What to know about fencing at the 2024 Paris Olympics
Fencing returns to one of its ancestral homes this summer in Paris, where centuries ago French masters in Parisian academies perfected the art of competitive, non-lethal swordplay.
The sport is primed for a true worldwide showcase as the world famous Grand Palais is transformed into the competition venue for fencing, one of the oldest and most traditional Olympic sports.
Host nation France is expected to contend for medals in nearly every event, though the French will face plenty of fierce competition, including from the United States.
Team USA returns defending women's foil gold medalist, Lee Kiefer, who leads a fascinating roster of seasoned veterans and promising teenagers that includes her husband Gerek Meinhardt as well as top-ranked men's foil fencer Nick Itkin.
