Giannis Antetokounmpo is headed to the Olympics for the first time.

One of basketball's biggest global stars and his native Greece had to go through a final qualification tournament, ending with a win over Croatia, which punched their tickets to Paris. They were one of four teams from four qualifying tournaments played around the globe that also qualified for the Olympic tournament.

Here's a look at those four teams that earned their trip to Paris. They join the eight previously qualified teams — the United States, France, South Sudan, Canada, Japan, Germany, Serbia and Australia — to form the 12-team tournament.

Antetokounmpo, at age 29, already has a Hall of Fame résumé — two-time MVP, NBA champion, NBA Defensive Player of the Year — but just one look at his face after Greece’s most recent win showed how much the Olympics and leading his home nation meant to him. He was in tears on the bench.

The Greek legend lifted the Hellas back to the Games for the first time since 2008, knocking off Croatia 80-69 despite a monster effort from the Clippers' Ivica Zubac, who put up 19 points and 13 rebounds. The game was tight in the first half but the Greeks pulled away in the second half behind 23 points and eight rebounds from Antetokounmpo.

Also on the Greek roster are Kostas Antetokounmpo (Giannis's brother who plays for Panathinaikos in Greece), former Florida star Nick Calathes, who played a couple of seasons with Memphis in the NBA, and center Georgios Papagiannis, the former No. 13 pick in the NBA who played a couple of seasons in Sacramento and Portland (he now plays for European power Fenerbahce in Turkey).

Greece is a quality team but lands in maybe the toughest group in the men's basketball tournament: Group A with Australia, Canada and Spain. Australia and Canada have rosters stacked with NBA talent and are considered medal contenders.

Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado and Tremont Waters — the former LSU star who played three NBA seasons — formed a backcourt Lithuania could not stop, as they combined for 41 points and lifted Puerto Rico past Lithuania 79-68 to claim a spot at the Paris Olympics.

This is the first time Puerto Rico has qualified for the Olympic tournament since 2004. This team relies on the guard play of Alvarado and Waters to do much of its scoring, but other names to watch include Jordan Howard (who played in college at Central Arkansas) and George Conditt IV, the former Iowa State standout center.

Puerto Rico is in Group C and may need to upset a powerhouse in the U.S. or Serbia to advance, with South Sudan being the other team in the group.

Rudy Fernandez is going to the Olympics for the sixth time, the first time any men's basketball player has done that.

Fernandez is one of the faces of Spain's golden age of basketball, but this 2024 squad relies on the younger legs of big men Willy Hernangomez (who played seven NBA seasons before returning to play in Spain for Barcelona) and Memphis Grizzlies center Santi Aldama. Lorenzo Brown — the former NC State star who played five NBA seasons — runs the show as the point guard and scored 18 points in Spain's 86-78 qualifying win over The Bahamas (led by Buddy Hield and Deandre Ayton). Warriors wing Usman Garuba had 10 points for Spain in the win.

Like Greece, Spain lands in a tough Group A also containing Australia and Canada.

Former NBA big man Bruno Caboclo and his Brazilian teammates upset some good teams to get out of this group — Nikola Vucevic leading Montenegro, and Davis Bertans with Latvia (Latvia missed Kristaps Porzingis in this tournament).

Brazil also relies on Leo Meindl, Marcelinho Huertas, Lucas Dias, Cristiano Felicio and Raul Neto on what is a deep team. Caboclo led Brazil with 21 points and Meindl added 20 in their qualifying win over host Latvia, 94-69. Brazil went on a 19-0 first-quarter run and never looked back.

Brazil goes into Group B in Paris with host France, Germany and Japan.
