Charlotte Dujardin, the 2012 and 2016 individual Olympic champion in Dressage, has withdrawn from the 2024 Paris Games.
The International Equestrian Federation (FEI) provisionally suspended the three-time gold medalist after it received a video showing her whipping a horse, which the FEI called "contrary to the principles of horse welfare," in a July 23 statement.
The provisional suspension bans her from participating in the Paris Olympics, but the equestrian had already withdrawn before the FEI announced their decision.
Dujardin is Great Britain's most successful Olympic equestrian. At the 2012 London Games, she claimed gold in both the team and individual dressage events. Four years later, she repeated as Olympic champion in individual dressage, and won team silver with Great Britain. During the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, she won bronze in both dressage events.
Without Dujardin, Great Britain named Becky Moody to their Olympic dressage team. She is set to make her Olympic debut on her bay gelding Jagerbomb. Andrew Gould, on Indigro, will be the team's new traveling alternate.
