Sunday was the final day of pool play in the women's water polo tournament at the Paris Olympics. The U.S. had a scheduled off day, but had already clinched a spot in the quarterfinals. Eight other teams battled in four games for the final spots in the quarterfinals. Here's a look at all four games.

Game 1: Australia 14, Hungary 12 (Australia win 5-3 in PSO)

The Australians won their fourth game in Paris, and second by penalty shootout. With the victory, Australia goes into the quarterfinals a perfect 4-0 in pool play and the top seed in the Group A standings.

The two teams were tied at 9-9 at the end of regulation after tying six times in the game. Neither team got more than a two-goal lead in four quarters.

Australia put through all five of its penalty shots in the shootout. The difference was Hungary's Kamilla Farago, whose attempt, the third for her team, hit the post and bounced out.

Alice Williams led all scorers with four goals for Australia, three of which came in the fourth quarter. Gabriella Palm had 13 saves, the most she's recorded in a single game in Paris. 

Dorottya Szilagyi and Rita Keszthelyi had two goals each to lead Hungary (2-2).

Game 2: Spain 13, Italy 11

Spain had already locked up the top spot in Group B, but a win over Italy on Sunday propelled the Spanish to a perfect 4-0 round of pool play.

After they were shut out in the first quarter, Italy bounced back with four goals in the second, and went into the half trailing 5-4. A goal by Claudia Marletta tied the score for Italy early in the third, and Spain responded with back-to-back goals by Judith Forca and Anna Espar.

Spain, the defending Olympic silver medalists, kept the lead and advanced it to as much as four late in the fourth quarter. Espar finished with three goals, and Bea Ortiz, Elena Ruiz, and Forca had two each.

Marletta led Italy with three goals. Dafne Bettini, Domitilla Picozzi, and Roberta Bianconi added two goals each.

Italy finishes pool play 1-4 and fourth in Group B.

Game 3: The Netherlands 20, Canada 11

The Netherlands clinched the No. 2 spot in Group A in a big way, scoring the most goals it has scored in a single game in Paris. 

The key for the Netherlands was not allowing Canada extra player opportunities. The Canadians has seven power play chances, and converted on just four. 

Lieke Rogge led all scorers with five goals on six shots on the day for Netherlands. Brigitte Sleeking had four goals on four shots. Six different Netherlands players had two or more goals. Verica Bakoc led Canada with three goals. Serena Browne and Shae La Roche added two each.

The Netherlands will be No. 2 in Group A because of a penalty shots loss to Australia on Day 1 of the competition. Canada (1-3) finishes Group B in fourth, with the top four teams moving on to the quarterfinals.

Game 4: Greece 11, France 4

Greece picked the perfect time to win for the first time in Paris. With the victory, the Greeks officially eliminated France and earned a spot in the tournament quarterfinals.

Greece broke a 3-3 halftime tie with three answered goals in the third quarter. France's only score of the third came on a penalty shot by Ema Vernoux with 40 seconds remaining to take her team into the fourth trailing, 6-4.

Vernoux led France with two goals.

The Greeks went on an even longer run of five straight goals that ran the entire fourth quarter. Eleni Xenaki and Vasiliki Plevritou had three goals each for Greece.

Quarterfinals coming up

With wins by Italy and Greece and a loss for France, all three teams finished 1-3 in Group B pool play, and each team's win came against one of the other three. With the tie, France was the team eliminated based on goal differential. China was already eliminated from Group A on Friday after going 0-4 in group play.

The top four teams in each group moved on to the quarterfinals. The No. 1 team in each group takes on the No. 4 on the opposite side, and No. 2 takes on No. 3 in the other group. The quarterfinals will be played on Tuesday. Here's each matchup. Game times have no been determined.
