U.S. women's basketball enters the knockout round in search of an eighth-straight gold, Tate Carew and Gavin Bottger vie for gold in skateboard park, and the women's golf tournament tees off at Le Golf National.

Headlining Day 7 of track and field: Katie Moon's title defense in pole vault, Quincy Hall and Michael Norman in the 400m final, and Paris 100m gold medalist Noah Lyles in the 200m semis.

Below, a full breakdown of the top events and athletes to watch on Day 12.

Basketball

In the women's quarterfinals, seven-time defending Olympic gold medalist Team USA (3-0) takes on Nigeria (2-1), the first African nation to ever reach this tournament's knockout stage.

Both A'ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart are averaging 20.3 points per game for the Americans, while Jackie Young led the team with 19 points in its most recent game Sunday vs. Germany.

For Nigeria, it's already been a successful third Games appearance, having finished 11th out of 12 teams in Tokyo. New Jersey-born Ezinne Kalu, a three-time AfroBasket champion, is averaging 19.3 points for the Nigerians.

Skateboarding

California natives Tate Carew and Gavin Bottger are gunning for podium spots in men's park. The 19- and 17-year-olds entered Paris ranked first and third in the world. Carew won May's Olympic Qualifier Series event, while last October, Bottger claimed his first career men's park world championship.

Other contenders include defending Olympic gold medalist Keegan Palmer of Australia, who recently won his second X Games gold; his teammate Kieran Woolley; and a Brazilian trio of Augusto Akio, Luigi Cini and Tokyo silver medalist Pedro Barros.

Tom Schaar, the third American in park — and elder at age 24 — is another. He made the team's cut over Jagger Eaton — this year's silver medalist in men's street — thanks to a second-place finish in the final Olympic Qualifier Series event in June.

Track and Field

Day 7 of track and field features six medal finals, beginning with the Olympic debut of marathon race walk mixed relay, which replaces the men's-only 50km walk. Teams comprising one male and one female alternate legs of about 10km to span a marathon distance.

In the field, two-time reigning world champion Katie Moon of the U.S. will attempt to defend her gold in the women's pole vault, a feat only accomplished by world record-holder Yelena Isinbayeva. Moon entered Paris the world No. 4 but is known for showing up when it matters. She took fourth in Monday's qualifying. Great Britain's Molly Caudery, current world leader and reigning world indoor champion, no-heighted and won't be in the final. Australian Nina Kennedy placed second. She shared the 2023 world title with Moon à la the Tokyo men's high jump final.

The men's 400m is wide open, especially in the wake of defending Olympic champion Steven Gardiner's scratch. That leaves the door open for a pair of Americans: 2023 world bronze medalist Quincy Hall and 2022 world champion Michael Norman. Hall won U.S. Trials in June and then the Monaco Diamond League meet in July. He'll need to keep an eye out for Grenada's Kirani James who just can't seem to go away. The 31-year-old Olympic champion from London 2012 topped Tuesday's qualifying with a world No. 2 clocking.

In men's discus, recently crowned world record-holder Mykolas Alekna of Lithuania challenges Sweden's reigning Olympic and world champion Daniel Stahl. Back on the track in the men's steeplechase, it's defending gold medalist Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco vs. Ethiopia's Lamecha Girma, who last year took down the event's world record from 2004 but lost to El Bakkali at the world championships. A win for El Bakkali makes him the first to repeat since 1932. A win for Girma makes him Ethiopia's first to win men's or women's steeplechase gold.

Golf

Defending gold medalist Nelly Korda of the U.S. has won six LPGA events this year including the Chevron Championship in April. While still the favorite, her three missed cuts and a tied-for-26th finish at The Evian Championship in July were less than ideal for a strong leadup.

Americans Lilia Vu, winner of two majors last year, and Rose Zhang, a two-time individual NCAA champion, join Korda as contenders. Japan's Yuka Saso won the U.S. Open earlier this spring, while South Korean Amy Yang took the PGA Championship in June.

Korda comes from an extremely athletic family: Her sister Jessica Korda competed in golf at the Tokyo Olympics, her mother Regina Rajchrtova is an Olympic tennis player, her father Petr is a major champion in tennis, and her brother Sebastian is a top-25 tennis player in the world.

Sarah Hildebrandt will wrestle Cuba's Yusneylys Guzman for gold in the women's freestyle 50 kg (110 lbs.) final — one of three gold medal matches taking place on Wednesday. (Hildebrandt's original opponent, Vinesh Phogat of India, did not make weight and was disqualified.) Hildebrandt previously won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics and is now guaranteed at least a silver medal in Paris. She'll look to become the second U.S. wrestler to strike gold after Amit Elor won the 68kg final on Tuesday.

If they're able to beat Qatar's Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan the bronze medalists from Tokyo — in the quarterfinals, they'll face reigning world runner-up Swedes David Ahman and Jonatan Hellvig in the semis.

Artistic Swimming

The U.S. is in medal contention with only the acrobatic routine left in the team final.

China flew to a lead of more than 26 points in Monday's technical routine — followed by Spain, Japan and the U.S. — and dominated again in Tuesday's free routine, extending its lead to nearly 70 points.

But the Americans took second in the free, and Japan had a bad showing in sixth-place, putting the U.S. second overall headed into the acrobatic routine with a narrow 9.4136 lead over Spain.
