In the women's 400m hurdles final, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone surged to a world record and the gold medal on Thursday in Paris. The feat marks the sixth time McLaughlin-Levrone has set a world record in the event.

“It’s amazing to see our sport continue to grow, for people to want to watch the 400m hurdles, it’s amazing," McLaughlin-Levrone said. "Just a lot of hard work put in this year. I knew it was going to be a tough race. An amazing competition all the way round.”

Tebogo beat out Americans Kenny Bednarek, Noah Lyles and Erriyon Knighton, who finished 2-3-4, matching their result at the Tokyo Games.
After winning the 100m, Lyles was poised to become the first American man since Carl Lewis in 1984 to complete the 100m-200m Olympic double gold. However on Thursday in Paris, Lyles' teammate Bednarek eclipsed him by 0.08 seconds for the silver medal.

The U.S. men's basketball team narrowly avoided an upset in Thursday's semifinal game against Serbia, winning 95-91 to clinch a spot in the gold medal game.
After trailing for most of the game, the U.S. outscored Serbia 32-15 in the fourth quarter to get the win.
Steph Curry scored 36 points on 12-of-19 shooting. LeBron James recorded his second-career Olympic triple double (16 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists).
The Americans are seeking their fifth straight gold medal in men's basketball. This sets up a repeat of the Tokyo 2020 men's basketball final where the U.S. beat France, 87-82. Earlier in the day, France beat Germany 73-69 in the other semifinal.
Sport Climbing: Sam Watson sets record en route to bronze
Sam Watson won bronze in the sport climbing men's speed event on Thursday. He beat Reza Alipour Shenazandifard in the bronze medal heat to win his first Olympic medal at just 18 years old.
Watson entered the Olympics as the world record holder in the event with a time of 4.79 seconds. He initially broke his own record in the qualifying rounds before resetting the record again with a time of 4.74 seconds in the bronze heat.
Veddriq Leonardo and Wu Peng, who defeated Watson head-to-head in their semifinal heat, won gold and silver, respectively.
"I have no regrets," Watson said. "I don't think I made any mistake as far as the input I gave as an athlete. Speed climbing is a very low-margin-for-error sport and I was up against some incredible athletes. So no regrets, I'm really proud of [Wu and Leonardo], who advanced to the podium with me. Resetting another world record also means a lot."

Volleyball: U.S. women advance to gold medal match
The U.S. women's volleyball team defeated Brazil, 3-2, to advance to the gold medal match of the tournament.
Team USA had defeated Brazil to win gold at the Tokyo Games three years ago, so Brazil was seeking revenge. But the U.S. women came together to secure the win.
The U.S. is now guaranteed its seventh medal, which ties the Soviet Union for the most by any country in Olympic women's volleyball.
Women's Golf: Morgane Metraux leads after Round 2
Morgane Metraux turned heads at La Golf National with an Olympic-record 28 on the front nine Thursday.
She had a few sloppy mistakes late and finished with a 66 but it was enough to take a one-shot lead over Ruoning Yin at the halfway point of the women's competition.
“It’s always fun to see yourself on top of the leaderboard,” Metraux said.
Metraux was ranked 137th in the world and in danger of losing her LPGA card this season, but she has so far stepped up on the Olympic stage.
Defending gold medalist Nelly Korda is tied for 12th entering the weekend.
