On Day 9 of the Paris Paralympic Games, the U.S. women's wheelchair basketball team plays a crucial semifinal game, the universal relay highlights the para track and field action, and Samantha Bosco races for a second para cycling gold medal.

Below is a breakdown of the top events and athletes to watch in Paris on Friday.

Wheelchair basketball

The U.S. women's wheelchair basketball team will look to earn a spot in the gold medal final of the tournament at the Paris Games as the Americans take on China in the semifinals at 10 a.m. ET on Friday.

The U.S. defeated Great Britain in a narrow 59-52 quarterfinal match. The game came down to the fourth quarter where both teams fought until the end.

Ixhelt Gonzalez, the youngest player on the team at 20 years old, proved to be one of the players of the match alongside Rose Hollermann.

Gonzalez helped put her team in a strong position to better their bronze medal finish from the 2020 Games as one more win guarantees the Americans at least a silver medal in Paris.

But a win in the semifinals is easier said than done, and Gonzalez knows it’ll be an even tougher matchup against China.

"It's going to take going through those bumps, as we did [against Great Britain],” she said. “We got to keep up the pace and play our game. Our motto is that we're 12 deep. A lot of our girls are supporting us from the bench, even if they don't come off the court. It's really, really important for those who are on the court."

The U.S. is looking to win a gold medal for the first time since the 2016 Rio Paralympics.

The winner of the clash between the U.S. and China will play the winner of the other semifinal matchup bewteen the Netherlands and Canada. The losers of each game will play for bronze.

Para track and field

There will be plenty of American athletes competing for a medal in para track and field on Friday.

Taleah Williams will compete in the women’s long jump T47, while Michael "Mikey" Brannigan will race in the men’s 1500m T20.

In the men’s 400m T62, Blake Leeper and Hunter Woodhall will look to earn a spot on the podium. And in what will be the biggest event of the day in para track and field, the 4x100m universal relay will take place on Friday. At the 2020 Tokyo Games, Noah Malone and Tatyana McFadden were part of the team that won gold for the U.S. in this event.

Para cycling

Samantha Bosco will look to add another gold medal in Paris when she competes in the women’s C4-5 road race.

The American finished first in the women’s C4 individual time trial. Now, she has the opportunity to win her second Paralympic gold medal as she is one of the favorites in the road race.

After missing Tokyo due to a training crash, Bosco said she will be using the same mindset that helped her win gold in the time trial as she hopefully collects another medal in her next race.

“I feel like this is my time to shine,” she said. "I definitely am appreciating being here, being able to race my bike. When it gets really hard, I just remember those moments and just push with everything I have and leave my heart out on the road."
